BMW’s sixth-generation 3-series, code-named F30, has been unveiled. I have reason to believe that the next BMW M3, M5 and M6 will be turbocharged. And while some BMW purists now might be lamenting the slow death of the naturally-aspirated BMW, realize that turbocharging is not only the wave of the future,Bmw M3 2012 but with turbochargers, you get more power out of less weight. Our earlier reports speculated that the sedan would make use of a standard M3’s 4.0-liter V-8, making a healthy 414 horsepower, but that won’t be the case. The CRT instead shares the GTS’s 4.4-liter, delivering 450 hp at a screaming 8300 rpm and 324 lb-ft of torque peaking at 3750 revs. Bmw M3 2012Its crankcase is constructed out of an aluminum-silicon alloy, it has individual throttle butterflies.Compared to the E90 3er, the 2012 3-series sedan is about 3.7 inches longer, rides on a 2.0-inch-longer wheelbase, and has wider tracks front (1.5 inches) and rear (1.9). The growth pays dividends to back-seat passengers; legroom increases by 0.7 inch, there’s 0.6-inch more knee room, and a smidge more headroom. Despite the newfound bigness, BMW claims that the sedans will weigh 88 pounds less than similarly equipped last-gen cars.thus leading to better handling characteristics. Now that is true BMW.Bmw M3 2012

Which is why I have reason to believe that this exact same engine, is destined for the next BMW M5 and M6. It's far less expensive to pump up and turbocharge their oft-used 4.4-liter V8 than to put together a special V10 specifically for the M5 and M6. Turbochargers allow for both high power, MUCH higher torque, and better MPG than the alternative. Bmw M3 2012Not to mention, take a look at the 0-60 times - the BMW M5 throws it down in a claimed 4.7 seconds.this car isn’t called the M3 CRT Big Horsepower though, so let’s get to the things that make it lighter than a standard M3 sedan. Benefitting from new manufacturing processes developed for the carbon-intensive BMW i3 and i8 models coming in 2013, the M3 CRT has a hood that consists of two carbon-fiber sheets encasing an aramid composite honeycomb for added rigidity. As a result, it has the strength of a traditional steel hood with just a quarter of the weight. Compared to a normal M3’s aluminum piece, the weight is halved. Inside the cabin, the front bucket seats use the same process and therefore benefit from the same weight savings. he X5M and X6M, porkers both, Bmw M3 2012throw it down in 4.5 seconds, despite being almost 1,000 pounds heavier each than the M5 and M6.Imagine what they could have done if it stayed the same overall size. you were wondering about the optimal angle of a driver-focused interior, it is seven degrees. (It must be optimal, or BMW wouldn’t have mentioned it.)As for the next BMW M3? Compare the current M3's 420 horsepower to the M5's 500. Or the old M3's 340 horsepower to the previous M5's 400. Bmw M3 2012Drop two cylinders, put it together. There may be some good news for those worrying—as we were—that the 3 would get electric steering as numb as that found in the latest 5-series.Bmw M3 2012
