The S model is the sporty version of the Corolla 2014 and comes equipped with 16-inch steel wheels with covers (17 inch aluminum rims are optional), a spoiler, fog lights and turn signals integrated into the mirrors. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard, while the new continuously variable CVTi-S automatic transmission is optional. The ambitious marketing campaign for Corolla, which Toyota said targets entry-level Millennial buyers and Baby Boomers, debuted on Thursday. The Corolla, which competes with the Ford Focus, Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra, goes on sale this fall.

There's no denying the new Corolla is a visual step up from the current version that blends into the background so quickly as to be darn near invisible. With design cues shared with the recent Furia concept, the face has more character, aided by sculpted LED headlamps that are now standard on all Corollas.From the front, the new Corolla is reminiscent of the Hyundai Elantra with its large, black grille while the curved panels and massive appearance of the car reminds us of the Kia Forte. The LE Eco model is most economical and ecological version of the Corolla range, even if the car is more powerful than other models - 140 horsepower versus 132 in the other versions.The Eco version of LE receives new Valvematic technology which adjusts the throttle valve opening in response to requests made to the engine. The result is an optimized and more efficient air-fuel mixture. Outside the LE Eco is equipped with steel 16-inch steel wheels with covers while aluminium rims are optional.
Michael Sivak, a research professor at the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, has found a shift in the peak age of vehicle buyers — from 35-44 in 2007 to 55-64 in 2011. Toyota stretched it as well. Although width and height remain within an inch of the last-gen model’s, both the wheelbase and overall length are up by 3.9 inches, and that’s a big plus for rear-seat space. Toyota shifted the rear seat hip point back nearly three inches. Slimming the front seatbacks added more legroom for those in the second row, while Toyota claims denser pads and foam inserts in the rear seats add comfort. The rear seatbacks fold and are split 60/40.
And let’s not forget the new LE ECO version, Toyota’s eco-friendly Corolla variant. This model gets a modified 1.8 liter engine with 140 horsepower instead of 132. The ECO model also includes a new technology called Valvematic which, like Chrysler’s Multiair system, continuously adjusts the throttle valve opening to optimize the air-fuel mixture according to the demands made on the engine.The Corolla S sends power to the front wheels via a six-speed manual or a unique continuously variable transmission that benefits from the addition of a manual mode and paddle shifters. In this combination, the Corolla is fairly peppy, and with the slightly heavier-tuned steering, it is much more engaging to drive than a bowl of vanilla ice cream.
