The 2013 Ford F-150 - This Is The Future Of Truck

The 2013 Ford F-150 - This Is The Future Of Truck. It's hard to complain when you're the best-selling pickup truck on the market, and for the new model year, the 2013 Ford F-150 has added a few features, too. That's important, because the competition is gaining ground in their attempt to catch up with this Ford's sales.the Ford F-150 has been one of the best selling vehicles in the U.S. It’s a full-size pickup that can work as a business workhorse or an adventure-seeking family’s daily driver. A rugged pickup, the F-150 has become an American icon. See our 2014 Ford F-150 review for pricing with options, specifications, and gas mileage ratings.

The Ford F-150 is available in no fewer than nine trim levels. These consist of the base XL, sporty STX, well-equipped XLT, rugged FX2/FX4 models, luxurious Lariat, western-inspired King Ranch, extreme off-road Raptor and the opulent Platinum and Limited variants. There are three cab sizes, three bed lengths and of course a choice between 2WD and 4WD. On the one hand it looks great and is laid out sensibly; on the other, it is slow and laggy, and not particularly responsive. As for the buttons underneath, they are large enough to be operated easily with a gloved hand. Unfortunately, trucks not equipped with the MyFordTouch screen use small, finicky buttons that can be hard to hit and the lower set of redundant controls mean you have to take your eyes off the road to change the heating and cooling. Ford already had a good bead on what made the luxury-truck life one worth living, but we had to experience the new-for-’13 range-topping $53,890 4x4 Limited for ourselves, so we sidestepped the bulk of the options sheet and secured one for a test. Our rig added a few nominal extras, including a spray-in bedliner ($475), a tailgate extender ($250), a tailgate step ($375), and a coat of White Platinum Metallic paint ($595), so it landed wearing a $55,585 sticker. For thrifty readers, consider that a comparable F-150 XL with the SuperCrew cab, EcoBoost engine and six-speed auto, four-wheel drive, and 5.5-foot bed starts at a low $37,425.

All engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and either two- or four-wheel drive. Test drivers like the diversity of the drivetrain options, saying that the base engine provides more than adequate power for light work, while the V8s and EcoBoost V6 have muscle for serious hauling and towing. They also like the standard six-speed automatic transmission, saying it shifts smoothly and helps the F-150 return respectable fuel economy numbers. The optional 5.0-liter V8 averages an EPA-estimated 15/21 mpg city/highway, which is decent for the class. The F-150 can tow up to 11,300 pounds, which is among the highest of full-size pickup trucks. The F-150 also receives an above-average safety score for the class. The towing is the best and like the new upgraded styling go it. Interior is a bit quieter from last model and has more horsepower with little added more room. Engine delivers 28 mpg overall which is perfect for a crew cab with me hauling and towing it does well with performance and the interior is more comfortable i like the F-150 more from the last one.

The quartet of powertrains that replaced Ford's old modular V-8s in the 2011 model year are back, unchanged for 2013. The standard 3.7-liter V-6 may seem like the dollar-store choice, until you've driven it with a light cargo load. The six-speed automatic (standard across the board) gets paired with taller rear axles to help it accelerate to 60 mph in under 10 seconds, and gas mileage still pushes the envelope, at up to 23 miles per gallon on the EPA highway cycle.Ford first sold a full-size pickup truck without any passenger-car roots in 1948. Throughout much of the next decades its F-Series pickup trucks came with six- or eight-cylinder engines; three-, four- and five-speed manual transmissions; and a single two-door body style. By 1960, the "F-100" had been christened at the entry level, with F-250 and F-350 versions available with an early kind of four-wheel drive. As most trucks of the era were designed as "flareside" models.Plenty of powerful engine choices are available as well. A 302-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 is the base engine, while the other choices (depending on trim level) consist of a 360-hp 5.0-liter V8, a 365-hp twin-turbo ("EcoBoost") V6 and a 411-hp 6.2-liter V8.
